Ledger41 began as a straightforward cataloguing exercise: take a representative sample of the open web, assign each site to the section where it fits most naturally, and publish the result as a browsable index. The name reflects that ethos — a ledger records what is present without editorialising about what should be.
The directory currently holds 836 sites across 22 sections. Sections range from the narrowly focused, such as Dental Condition Notes and Print Works & Labelling, to the intentionally broad General Ledger Entries, which files anything that does not map cleanly elsewhere. Every section is listed on the home page and is browsable without an account or login.
Submissions are accepted from any site operator at no cost. After submission, each entry is reviewed against basic criteria: the site must be accessible, must have a clearly identifiable primary topic, and must not be submitted more than once. Sites that pass review are assigned to a section and added to the manifest. The review process is not instant; allow a few days for new entries to appear.
Ledger41 does not guarantee placement, does not accept payment for inclusion, and does not alter the order of entries within a section based on any commercial arrangement. Sites are listed as filed, in the order they were added to the section.
The log is maintained on a best-efforts basis. If you notice a listed site that has become unreachable or has changed its primary subject, you are welcome to flag it through the submission form. The goal is an accurate, usable index — not an exhaustive one.
